Ladies and gentlemen of the interwebs, it’s that magical time of year again. The weather is getting cooler, the leaves are beginning to change, and there’s beer in the air. That’s right folks, it’s time for the Breese Fall Festival in lovely Breese, IL!

<!–nextpage–>

In case you were wondering, yes, I am going to ignore the fact that we haven’t posted since February. Thanks for noticing. Beer stuff guys, keep up! This year we are bringing three brand new beers to the festival. I’m sure there will be some folks that are disappointed that we’re not bringing the Hot Blonde, but we’re hoping the new recipes will tickle your fancy as well. Without further ado…

Beer #1: Toasted Coconut Porter.

We really like this beer. This English style porter has a subtle toasted coconut flavor that plays well with the roastiness and mild sweetness of the traditional porter. Here she is from beginning to end:

Brew day! I love the contrasting colors of the grains when we brew dark beers.

First runnings.

Almost ready to boil!

Big full kettle and a rolling boil!

Filling the fermentation buckets.

Toasting the coconut for secondary additions.

Filtering before filling the kegs.

Filling the kegs.

Seth admiring the first pour.

Bottled and ready to share!

Beer #2: Peach IPA.

We wanted an IPA that wouldn’t leave your mouth dry, but also didn’t sacrifice the flavors and aromas of the American IPA that we all know and love. This beer is JUICY!

Brew day! No contrasting colors in these grains, but a beautiful sight nonetheless.

First runnings. This is going to be a pretty beer!

Kettle is full, patiently awaiting the boil.

Full boil in effect!

Filling the fermentation buckets.

Prepping the peaches for a secondary addition.

Secondary complete! The conical is full.

Filling the kegs.

Filtering while filling the kegs.

Seth admiring the first pour.

Bottled and ready to share. Told you it was going to be a pretty beer!

Beer #3: Honey Nut Brown.

I think I speak for all of the Regular Guys when I say that brown ales are amonst the most underrated beers. It also just so happens to be one of our favorite styles. This is our take on the American brown ale.

Brew day! There’s those contrasting colors again!

First runnings.

Full kettle, waiting on the magic to happen.

Filling the fermentation buckets.

The conical is full. Ready to filter and keg!

Filtering another gorgeous beer!

Filling the kegs.

Brian admiring the first pour. Seth couldn’t make it, so Brian filled in for the picture.

Well there you have it, those are the three beers we’re taking to the Breese Fall Festival! We hope to see you there this Saturday, September 30th at Northside Park. We can’t wait to serve you and get your feedback on our brand spankin’ new beers. Be there or be square! You’re not a square…are you?

Until next time…

Holy cow it’s been a while since we’ve posted anything on the old blogging machine! Well here I am to fill you in on the going ons of Regular Guy Brewing. We have been so busy brewing eight batches per day, it’s been insane! That’s a lie. We haven’t brewed for a while now. Our last brew session was our Red Rye IPA (just in case you forgot what it looks like)

image

and while it’s delicious and we love it like crazy, we are definitely chomping at the bit to get another brew session under our belts. We did have the opportunity to brew on Friday, but chose to support Recess Brewing, a local brewery that just opened its doors this past Tuesday. I know right, twist our arms. So we went, had some great beers and met the owner, Matt who is a really cool guy. He even let us into the brewery and didn’t get mad when we drooled all over his equipment. Good dude! We didn’t take many pictures because we were enjoying ourselves so much. Seth did snap a few which I will gladly share with you now!

image

Oh yes, beer porn! This is Recess Brewing’s Pedagogical Session Porter. You read that right, Session Porter. It’s got all the big bold flavor of a Porter, but you can drink it all day! That’s a win – win defined my friends! Want another picture of this beautiful beer? Ok!

image

Boom! Would have looked nicer with full glasses, but we had a tough time keeping our glasses full!

image

This is their 2211 IPA. Beautiful AND delicious, it’s the total package! I love their description of this beer as well.

“Have you ever been punched in the face by a flower? This floral IPA that is made with multiple hop varieties totaling about 2 pounds/barrel and with it comes an aroma that will attack your senses.”

I can now happily say I’ve been punched in the face by a flower and will continue to be punched in the face by a flower for many years to come! One of the best IPAs I’ve ever had.

image

Of course we have a picture of Brian doing Brian stuff!

Like I said, we didn’t take too many pictures, but I would like to share the other brews we had as well.

Hop Square: Hoppy American Brown –“The very first beer through the equipment. A happy accident that created a hoppier American brown. It has been so well received, we’re working to duplicate it to offer it alongside Four Square.”
This beer was very interesting. A different take on the traditional Brown Ale. Delicious to say the least!

Traitor: Extra Special Bitter –
“Like a famous traitor of the American Revolutionary War, this beer will deceive you. This ESB is hopped so it smells like an American Ale, but at first drink it reveals its true colors as an English Ale.”
Truly deceiving and truly amazing! You definitely can’t judge the book by its cover on this one!

Here’s Brian, Matt and Seth in the Brewery, it was a great way to end an awesome night! Thank you Matt for the wonderful hospitality, see you again soon!

Are you ready for a very special update? The update you’ve all been waiting for over a month for? Let’s do this! Back on August 15th I wrote a blog post about how StolzeStyle Brewing and Regular Guy Brewing got together to share some beers and stories and ended up agreeing to do a collaborative brew. Need a refresher? You can read the blog post here.

All up to speed? Good! Let’s continue. For the last month I’ve been teasing you and everyone else about the TOP SECRET ingredients that were going to make our “Storter” (again, thanks for the inspiration Alpha Brewing Company!) If you’re asking yourself what a “Storter” is, you either:

A) were too lazy to click the link and read the blog post

2) have never been to Alpha Brewing Company (you’re missing out)

C) have a terrible short term memory and/or

D) all of the above

I’ll do this one more time. A “Storter” is a beautiful combination of a Stout and a Porter. Basically it takes all the best characteristics of both styles and gently and lovingly swirls them together. This is a great beer brewed by Alpha and Eric and Jennifer from StolzeStyle just so happened to bring some along, as inspiration for our own of course!

image

It’s a fine looking beer and delicious to boot! Now we could have always just taken Alpha’s recipe and brewed it, but we could just go there and drink theirs. So we made some additions and gave it a new twist.

If you haven’t noticed, I’m stalling as hard as I can. Trying to write whatever I can to make you wait even longer to find out the TOP SECRET ingredients that we have been bragging about for over a month now. Do you know what happened to me the day? It’s so damn funny! I was walking down the stairs when all of the sudden I…I’m just kidding, are you ready to finally know the TOP SECRET ingredients? Ok. Remember, this is a Storter, a dark, lovely beer. Rich and roasty. We added brown sugar and…

image

BACON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes bacon. You heard me right, bacon! Say it with me, BACON! We added brown sugar and bacon to an already perfect Storter recipe. Well, now that the cat’s out of the bag, here’s our night in pictures.

Seth brought over some new toys!

image

This is our new conical fermenter.

image

Our new 25 gallon kettle.

image

Our new mash tun.

image

Our hops were provided by Music City Brew Supply.

image

There’s that bacon I was talking about and the brown sugar and hops and the bacon. Did I mention the bacon? I think I mentioned the bacon. Bacon.

image

There’s Eric and Brian doughing in.

image

Brian presents his handiwork. He’s very skilled at dumping things into other things.

image

Jen cracks the whip on Eric. There better not be any grain clumps in there!

image

The first runnings.

image

Eric and Brian discussing important brewery related things.

image

Uh oh! The Brian fans are going to be so jealous!

image

The final runnings in the kettle, getting ready for the hot break.

image

Boiling away like a champ! Our one hop addition is in and brown sugar added.

image

We fill our buckets two at a time! Look closely, there’s bacon in there!

image

End of the night with Eric.

image

End of the night with Jen.

There you have it! We didn’t pitch the yeast yet. The beer will cold crash for a bit to let any fat from the bacon separate. We’ll skim it all off and transfer to the new conical fermenter and then pitch the yeast. Then we have more bacon additions coming. We’ll keep you posted on the progress.

Until next time…
