I learned something this week. It’s something that I probably should have known…but I didn’t. I feel shame for that. I take great pride in my knowledge of all manners of esoteric facts and figures, but this one slipped past my radar.

Given that I am writing this blog post on the website of a nano brewery in the making, I don’t think it will come as a huge shock that I am a big fan of craft beer. I am also quite fond of the craft beer community. I love the devotion and support that craft beer enthusiasts show towards their local breweries and the excitement they feel in anticipation of a new release. I have witnessed the fevered fervor of tracking down a special release of a seasonal brew followed by the pure joy and titillation that comes with savoring its first pour. It’s a thing of absolute wonder to behold, and its something I will never tire of. I look forward to the day when even an ounce of that passion is sent the way of Regular Guy Brewing.
That said…I have to say that I am very disappointed by the angered response that my fellow brew enthusiasts have had towards Budweiser’s “Proud to be Macro” Superbowl ad. Continue reading

Sometimes in life, you are just cruising along, thinking that everything is just fine and dandy. You haven’t a care in the world…until it hits you. You know that moment. That instantaneous feeling of self-loathing and general perturbation that strikes you like a load of bricks when you realize that you are an idiot. A complete frickin’ idiot.
I will fully admit, that I am more than well acquainted with this feeling. Such moments can be tough to take, because in said moments of complete cognizance, you are fully aware that you are not as bright as you previously thought you were. Or, to paraphrase one of my personal role models in life…one Lloyd Dobler…you suddenly know enough to know that you don’t know. And that’s something.
But here’s the good news. These moments of clarity provide us with a huge opportunity. Our newly achieved awareness presents a great challenge. We know of the problem…now what’s the solution? Continue reading

A few weeks ago, I was able to treat our readers with a behind the scene’s glimpse into the construction of our new 1/2 BBL mash tun. Our custom built wood-clad beauty ended up being just about everything I had hoped that it would.
In early use, it has performed beyond expectations, and we are very excited to be able to put it through even more paces in the months to come. I also was able to show you our new 25 gallon kettle, which…while by no means fancy…has also performed exceedingly well in early use.
Which brings us to the next key component in our expansion…our fermenter. Continue reading

Justin is out of town and is busy enjoying the beauty, nature and beer culture in Boulder, Colorado, so he is unable to provide your weekly dosage of Regular Guy insight. Regardless, the show must go on, so I will be stepping in to do my absolute best to keep our avid fans and supporters (Hi Mom!) in the know.
We didn’t do any brewing over the weekend. Had a few other brewery related irons in the fire, so we weren’t able to fit it in. Hoping to fire up the kettles again soon though as we have three new recipes we want to fit in before it gets too cold to mash outdoors with any level of effectiveness.
While we didn’t brew, we did get together for a while Friday night to tend to some final arrangements for a competition we took part in on Saturday. Among those final preparations included adding a few final details to our serving station/bar. Continue reading
