Seth will be out of town, I will be out of town, and Brian is closing on his new house! Lots of stuff going on this weekend and unfortunately there’s no time to brew. BUT we will be getting together Sunday for a little football watching and a little APA drinking! That’s right, our American Pale Ale will be ready for it’s debut! We’ll post our review shortly after, but I can already tell you how it’s going to go…

THIS BEER IS AMAZING!

Brewing will resume Friday the fourteenth with a revamped wheat recipe that will most definitely blow doors down!

Friday night we got to taste the first beer we brewed. I think I speak for all of us when I say, it wasn’t the flavor we were expecting or hoping for, but it was pretty damn good! It was a wheat beer. She was a little too hoppy for my taste, but
had great smokey caramel flavors and a clean finish. As Brian said, the fact that we made a beer and we haven’t gone blind (yet) is a victory in itself! We’ll be tweaking the recipe and giving it another shot in about two weeks!

Its finally here! The first batch of brew is ready to be introduced to the world. I found it hard to sleep last night knowing that just hours away, the grand unveiling of Regular Guy beer will be upon us. It is both thrilling and nerve racking. What if it tastes like donkey piss? I really doubt that it will. I am expecting more of a quadracorn secretion. But alas, this was a static recipe, and not one of Sir Sethington’s creations. Who knows, we could end up with a pair of dress socks instead of the Red Rider BB gun under the brewing tree.

Next week the true genius of Brew-master Seth will be either confirmed or denied. Our APA will be ready, and this was a totally original creation. Not to spoil the surprise, but it looks and smells like it will be amazing. In the on-deck circle is the Honey Brown. Justin and I snuck a peek at it last week, and it actually made my schwanz move. This one will definitely be a home run! Full-bodied, slightly sweet with a clean finish. I feel like Christmas will be coming every-other Friday as our labors-of-love finish their brewery tour and will be released upon the lips of the world.

Before I drift back off to the sugar-beer plums dancing in my head, I just want to give proper props to the rest of the Regular Guy brotherhood. Seth and Justin, I could not be more proud of what we are doing and all of the hard work that has been done. This may be the greatest adventure ever embarked on by three Regular Guys. We were tired of the “Soda-Pop” beers and the “Skunky-Snob” beers, so we decided to do something about it. We decided to make flavorful, clean, refreshing beer with taste. We have earned it and we will definitely enjoy it. Happy drinking to all, and to all a good night!

Beer Noob

My name’s Justin, and I am a Regular Guy. I titled this post “Beer Noob,” but really I should have titled it “Good Beer Noob.” See, I’m no stranger to drinking beer, but up until we decided to start brewing our own beer, I had never really left my comfort zone when it came to buying and drinking beer. I occasionally bought a six pack of Boulevard Wheat, but I stuck to the beers that you can buy a 30 pack of for $15.

Before we brewed our first batch, we did a lot of “research.” Luckily we had a liquor store in town that let you mix and match and create your own six packs from any beer they had on the shelf! This came in handy for trying new beers. Now, Brian and Seth (the other Regular Guys) have a much more experienced palate than I do when it comes to beer. They had tried a number of the beers we used for “research” and knew a lot more than I did about the different styles of beer. With them as my guide, I jumped head first into the world of good beer!

My mind was blown! Did you know that beer has flavors and aromas? I was hooked. All I could think about was brewing our own good beer! We are now three batches in and I’m starting to get the hang of it. Recipes are starting to make sense, the hydrometer is getting easier to read, I’m constantly thinking about ways to experiment with different beers. I’m excited, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us!

What’s in a name…

Super excited for this Friday night’s brew. It’s going to be a Belgian Wit / Hard Cider hybrid that Justin dreamed up. I think the two styles will blend well together, and should be a most excellent brew to enjoy during the ensuing fall evenings. As an added bonus, we will be able to enjoy some fully carbonated samplings of our first wheat beer.

For Justin and Brian, this will be their first time getting to sample a beer that they brewed with their own hard work. It won’t be my first, but it will be the first in a good while. Good times will be had by all. Continue reading →
