Last night we cracked open our second attempt at our wheat beer. While this was our second attempt, it was our first attempt at all grain brewing and Seth’s revamped recipe.

While it was leaps and bounds above our first wheat beer, it’s not quite there yet. First of all, it was WAY to effervescent. Actually, when Brian left last night he thanked me for having him over for soda! We ran out of corn sugar when bottling this batch and had to use table sugar instead, and apparently, too much. How do you fix this problem? You buy a big ass bag of corn sugar, problem solved! The flavor is right on, but a little on the weak side. We ran in to some speed bumps while brewing this batch, but have since ironed out the issues while brewing other batches. Give us a break! It was our first all grain!

The most important lesson learned, if you’re the guy pouring the grains into the mash tun, make sure more grains get into the tun than get onto the floor…my bad.

Anyway we are extremely confident that our next wheat will be right where we want it to be. Seth’s recipe is amazing (as always), Brian’s going to be all sexy (as always) and I’ve been practicing pouring things into other things.

Brewing resumes on October 26th!

It was a brisk evening of brewing. A chill was in the air, and the leaves are beginning their metamorphosis into an amber palate of color. Amber. Like the glorious coloring of our second batch of American Pale Ale. I have not been this excited since I snuck into a bar as an adolescent to see my first pair of woman-boobies! Ah, the memories. Not unlike that wet tee-shirt contest, the sight of those full 3 cases of APA were breath taking!

I do believe it is safe to say, that the learning-curve regarding the transition to all-grain brewing has been concurred! As reported earlier, the all-grain venture with the Honey Brown, was also a success. Two in a row is definitely a pattern. As the Regular Guy brewers retreat into the arms of nature for some pyrotechnics, beer downing and camaraderie, the APA will make another voyage across my lips.

I anticipate the full-bodied, succulent, robust, yet subtle flavor upon my lips will stir my soul and excite the senses. You see, its not too far removed from that dampened undergarment mammary competition. Ah, the memories!

Brewcation…sorta

As part of my full-time job, I have to do a bit of travel. I typically don’t get to see much of the cities I visit beyond whatever sights can be seen through the car window during the drive between the airport and the hotel, but once in a while the opportunity presents itself to make a side trip to a local bar or grocery store. This has been one of those trips.

As I write this post, I am currently find myself in Atlanta, Ga. I am here to shoot a bit of video, but my evenings have been largely free. This has provided me with a great chance to not just see some sights, but to also sample some local flavors. Continue reading →

(Not so) Honey Brown Ale…

Friday night we sampled our highly anticipated honey brown ale. It had great flavor. Great mouth feel. It was balanced with just the right amount of bitterness and a smooth after taste. It was everything you’d want a BROWN ale to be. BUT, we missed the mark with the honey flavor. There was a slight honey after taste, but not exactly what we were shooting for. Seth already has ideas to intensify the honey flavor for your enjoyment!

Oh well, we still consider this a victory. Another great beer under the belt!

Coming soon, HONEY Brown Ale #2!

It’s brew day!
It’s brew day!
It’s fin-a-ly here!

That’s a song I just wrote. You have to sing it or it doesn’t make sense.

It’s brew day! Tonight we are brewing our revamped recipe for our wheat beer, bottling our cider wit, and drinking our honey brown ale. Busy, but fun night ahead!

I’m sure we’ll have a review of the honey brown to follow.

Have a great weekend everybody!

There’s our honey brown patiently awaiting our lips and bellies!
