And that is Brian kicking Seth into an imaginary well. Sorry, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to act out the scene in “300” whilst in a city called Sparta. Can you blame us?

Holy frijoles! It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post. Actually the last one I wrote was me whining about not being able to brew.  I’m not going to put you through that again. Why? You ask. Did you guys actually brew something? You also ask. No we didn’t, but we did meet up with our good friends and homebrewers from StolzeStyle Brewing and fellow craft beer enthusiast Dwayne Muckensturm at a lovely little microbrewery, you may have heard me talk about them before, Recess Brewing.

We had a great time at Recess Brewing,  it was Eric and Jenny’s (StolzeStyle Brewing) first time trying their beer, we met Dwayne for the first time in person, and not just on Twitter, met Dwayne’s friend JT and finally met the other half of Recess Brewing, Kris. It was a whole night of first times! Great beer, great company and great conversations, could it get any better?

It could!

After we closed Recess, Eric and Jenny followed us back to my house to finish the evening sharing our homebrew. They brought six different homebrew selections! While they were all quite tasty, my personal favorites were the Black IPA and the Bourbon Barrel Stout made with cocoa nibs. We presented them with only three different brews, two of which they have already tried. To make up for the lack of variety, we made them sit through every crappy movie we ever made! Evened it right up!

My only regret about the night, was I completely forgot to snap a few pictures to share with you. Shows how out of practice I am on the old blogging machine! Don’t fret. Brian, Seth and I are getting together this Friday night to work on the business plan and some budget stuff and I’ll have my trusty camera at the ready to capture all of the spreadsheet excitement!

Until next time!

It’s Monday, let’s update!

This Monday morning update is a little different than the other updates. It’s not all about brewing or brewing activities. All I can say is, I have a DAFCAE hangover.

What’s DAFCAE? It’s the Dude’s Annual Fall Camping Adventure Extravaganza! Every Fall the Regular Guys go camping and engage in all kinds of manly activities. We drink a ton of beer, play a ridiculous amount of disc golf, have massive bon fires and burn random items, shoot things with guns all while eating unapologetically. It’s a weekend of male bonding at its finest.

Seth and I did manage to get some beer related work done on Friday before we took off to the great outdoors. Have a look.

image

Secondary was complete for the Hot Blonde Jalapeño Blonde Ale so it was time to keg that sucker! Here it is going into keg one.

image

The beer leaves keg one and then gets filtered.

image

Then it enters keg two where it’ll be carbonated. She’s a pretty beer!

image

We also put some stain on our serving station.

image

Here’s a closer look at the top. Turned out nice!

image

What our setup will look like on the day of the competition.

image

Little bit closer.

image

Even closer yet. The two stands on the side will be for our vote collection containers, one for each beer we’re bringing to the competition.

We also finally transferred the Bacon and Brown Sugar Storter to primary fermentation and pitched the yeast. I have no pictures of that though. Sorry.

Want to see some pictures from DAFCAE? I’m going to post them anyway so you might as well be into it.

image

Seth brought some wood, this was gone the first night.

image

Yes that’s a spice rack.

image

Pallets make good bon fire material.

image

Not even sure what we’re burning here.

image

image

Posing with honest Abe Lincoln at Scheels. Scheels is probably the biggest sporting goods store ever. It has a ferris wheel inside.

image

image

Hanging out at our favorite restaurant, D’Arcy’s Pint. Their horseshoe sandwich is actually made by angels. It’s the best thing you will ever eat in your life. Ever.

image

We found this kitten crying in the woods while we were disc golfing. She was a sweet little thing. After a while of holding her and passing her around to toss our shots she jumped down. We thought she was going to run away,  but she followed us through seven holes of disc golf. When we stopped to throw, she stopped and waited. So damn cute. She needed food and water desperately so we took her to a no kill shelter near by to get cleaned up and checked out. The ladies were gushing over her and swore she would be adopted really quick.

image

We named her Simcoe after our favorite hop variety.

image

She took a liking to Seth.

I don’t have very many pictures of our camping adventure. When you’re drinking and having fun, the pictures kind of go to the wayside. Maybe I’ll remember to snap some more next year, but probably not though!

I’m going to dedicate this trip to our newest member of the RGB crew. Our Regular Cat, Simcoe.

image

We hope you find a loving family and have a happy life.

Well, now it’s back to the daily grind, back to reality, back to the day jobs.

Until next time…

Most of the time my Monday morning update is actually on a Monday, not this time! It’s also usually about the three of us getting together and brewing or kegging or bottling or doing something brew related, but this weekend was a little different. Our brewmaster, Seth, was out of town for his “real job.” This left Brian and I wondering what we should do with ourselves.

We could brew, I mean we do have all the equipment at Brian’s, but it just wouldn’t feel right brewing without our fearless leader.

We could take a long drive and go play disc golf in a cave, but it just wouldn’t feel right playing disc golf without the guy who introduced us to the sport.

We could take an even longer drive to the eat the best horseshoe sandwiches in the entire world, but it just wouldn’t feel right eating a horseshoe without the guy who brought those delicious sandwiches into our lives.

We could go check out a new local brewpub we haven’t tried yet, but it just wouldn’t feel right…you get the idea. We like doing stuff together, the three of us.  We’re good, loyal friends.

So what can we do that Seth doesn’t really care to do, but Brian and I both like to do? Play video games, duh!

image

(No we didn’t get to play the NES, I don’t have one anymore) We don’t get the opportunity to play on our own much anymore let alone playing together. It seemed like the obvious choice. Before we settled in for our marathon gaming session, we grabbed a couple of six packs.

We got the Sierra Nevada Flipside Red IPA.

image

Which paired really well with the Gears of War 3 we were playing.

image

We also picked up the Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Extra.

image

Which paired quite nicely with the NHL 14 we played as well.

image

Both of these beers were an excellent choice, not always the case when purchasing beer you’ve never tried before.

Anyway, as much fun as Brian and I had doing stuff that Seth doesn’t really like to do, we missed our friend very much. We’re happy that he has returned home safely and that we’ll all be back together this Friday to do something we all love, brew some delicious Regular Guy beer!

Oh yeah, Brian and I also went to Hooters. The food, service and beer was terrible. They’ve got nothing on Buffalo Wild Wings.

Until next time…
