On Sunday I talked about the numerous businesses that Brian, Seth and I have been involved in over the years and it brought back so many fond memories. Namely memories of our video production days. As I was going through old files on the computer I realized how many times our “production company” changed names. I know this has nothing to do with beer or brewing, but I figured I would share anyway. If I have to connect this to beer to make it relevant to the blog, we did drink a lot of it while writing, shooting and editing our videos and films!

Here we go!

This was Seth’s production company before we met.

This was my production company before we met. We eventually merged the two houses.

After a brief hiatus, we joined forces and two companies were formed. WTF was for films.

1019 Creative was for corporate stuff.

Then every time we entered a festival we changed our name. Because we’re cool like that.

New festival, new name.

Another festival, another name.

We changed it again!

Who knows, maybe next time it’ll be this!

So there you have it. I know it’s not necessarily about beer, but it is an insight into who we are and what we do and have done. Once we get our YouTube channel up and running we’ll share all of our little gems. Until then you’ll just have to be patient. I mean you’ve waited this long, you can wait a little longer. Geez.

Before I delve too deeply into the dulcet tones of my own typing, let me take a moment to issue a sincere apology for not blogging much (at all really) over the course of the last few months. I don’t really have a good reason for my online absence, so please let me offer a few completely fabricated and generally nonsensical reasons for my lack of writing:

My dog ate my laptop.
I was being held hostage by underwear gnomes.
I had to go on a long soul searching journey to find myself again.
I was on a drug and hate crime fueled bender.
I was busy training a monkey to ride a dog.
I discovered the meaning of life…but then forgot it.
Aliens. Don’t ask for details. It will only bring back the nightmares.
I was just too gassy to type.

So now that those feeble excuses are out of the way, let’s turn to the here and now.

This morning, as is the case with every morning, I started my day off by taking the dog for a walk. It was a brisk morning, but what else would you expect for the end of December.

The sun had not quite fully risen, and the air was quiet…almost eerily so. It was the kind of quiet that only exists this time of year. There were no birds chirping. The wind was still. There were no kids on corners waiting for the school bus. It was just dead silent.

Maybe it was the silence, or maybe it was the captivity of anxiously awaiting Lucy to do her business, but I found my mind spinning with ideas. Continue reading →

We all know that the world is coming to an end on Friday. Sucks to be us.

I don’t know about you, but I have been struggling to find the best ways to fill the time between now and the impending doom that awaits us on 12-21. At least I was struggling, until I came across this great list on the Flying Dog Brewery website.

Get a face tattoo of Mike Tyson.
Go streaking up to the quad and into the gymnasium.

Walk 500 miles. Then walk 500 more.

Sing “We Didn’t Start the Fire” on karaoke night.
Be involved in a high speed chase.
Make and eat a turkducken.
Kill Nicolas Cage.

No time to waste.

Things have been a bit slow on the blog as of late, so I thought that I would treat our regular readers (all three of you) to a special interview that I recently conducted with one of the most talented up-and-coming brewers I have ever had the chance to meet. I found this discussion intriguing and insightful, and I hope that you will as well.

So without further adieu, I present you with my exclusive behind-the-scenes interview with Seth Treptow, one of the super talented founders of Regular Guy Brewing. Enjoy!

Me: So, what made you want to become a brewer?
Seth: I like drinking beer. Beer is pretty cool. I also like making stuff. So why not make beer? Just made sense.

Me: Who are your greatest influences?
Seth: In terms of other brewers, I don’t really have any. I kind of see myself as a vanguard who has broken the mold of convention. I don’t really care about all those other guys. I just don’t see what they have to offer me. Instead I find that I have to tap into other sources for inspiration. If you put my feet to the fire, and made me name a few though, I would probably have to cite Rick Astley, William Shatner and Alf as my three biggest influences…in brewing and in life. I learned a lot from those guys.

Me: If you had to describe yourself, how would you do it?
Seth: Probably with words. Given the proper time, I might be able to do it with numbers, but that just seems silly. Words are definitely the way to go.

Me: Any particular words?
Seth: Modern Renaissance Man. I like to think of myself as being on par with Leonardo, Michelangelo or Donatello…the artists not the turtles. Those guys were multi-tool threats. That’s how I roll. I’m not just some one trick pony, I’m versatile. My mind is always in motion. The gears never stop turning. I am a machine…but also a man. A man with big ideas and plans. A freight train with the mind of a ninja. That’s me.

Me: What about the other guys behind Regular Guy Brewing? Any thoughts about them?
Seth: They’re alright…I guess.

Me: So what are your plans for Regular Guy Brewing?
Seth: World domination. But if that doesn’t happen, I’ll settle for making kick ass beer that is enjoyed en masse by our adoring public. It may take some time, but I think we’ll get there.

Me: Wow! Terrific stuff. Thank you so much for your time and candor.
Seth: Not a problem. It was an absolute pleasure. Drop by anytime.
