I’m baaaaaaack!

So I got a new phone and I couldn’t for the life of me remember my WordPress password to fire up the app on my phone. New password is set and I’m ready to blog on the old blogging machine once again. I know you guys missed me.

I have just one question.

Why did Yankee Doodle name the feather in his hat “Macaroni? ”

Ok, two questions.

Why was his name “Yankee Doodle? ”

Ok, three questions.

Why did he ride a pony instead of a full grown horse?

It could be worse

Busy schedules and busy home life don’t always allow for marathon brew sessions, but we were able to get together last Thursday evening to bottle our latest batch of Hot Blonde. BUT as they say, the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. The bottles were sanitized and the keg was primed. Just as we were about to bottle the deliciousness that is our Hot Blonde, we realized we didn’t have any bottle caps. Bummer! No beer was going home with us that night.

We did, however, tap that keg and give the Hot Blonde a taste. With this batch we were looking to increase the heat just a little. This time around the jalapeño flavor really came through, complimented by a nice earthy tone and just the right amount of spice that sits on the tongue. Still not too hot, but just right! It was carbonated perfectly and had a beautiful pale yellow color.

While the beer didn’t travel home with us, we still made another damn fine beer.

Until next time.

As much as I hate to admit it…

I probably shouldn’t say this…but I’m not really one to pull any punches, so I’m just going to spit it out…version one of our Red Rye-der kinda sucks.

meangirIt looks beautiful…but just like so many pretty girls in high school, looks are not everything. Behind her gorgeous exterior, this brew is pungent, astringent, and damn near vile.  It’s the “Mean Girls” of beer.

Speaking of “Mean Girls”…what is the deal with those outfits? Long sleeves with skirts so short that their hoo-has are barely covered? What an odd combo. That school must have had some really jacked up HVAC.

Happy Birthday to Us!!!

I feel kind of embarrassed for not realizing it sooner, but Regular Guy Brewing just marked its first year of brewing awesomeness. Happy Birthday to us!

Well technically, our actual birthday was in July, but better late than never.

314412_10151087999279354_1539560860_nAhh yes, I remember it well. I remember meeting up with Brian that fine Sunday morning so that we could run to Lowes and purchase a turkey fryer to use for our first burner and kettle. I remember going to Justin’s and setting up our equipment, and how annoyingly long and unnecessarily difficult it was to put the burner together. I remember the annoyance of running out of propane halfway through the boil, and having to make an emergency run for more. I remember how painstakingly long it took for us to chill our beer to fermentation temperature in the Summer heat. Continue reading

Hobby or Vocation?

If you’ve come within earshot of me anytime in the last year, there is a fair to decent chance that you have heard me talk (at length) about beer and brewing. It’s been amazing to see how conversations, regardless of their topics of origin, can evolve into a discussion about beer. Other than my baby girl, it’s just about the only thing I talk about these days.

You could call me obsessed…but you’d probably be being polite.

And while these conversations have been enjoyable on average, there has come a point in almost all of them, when I become fully cognizant that the dialogue has become more of a monologue. They just tune out. They politely nod their heads and make the occasional audible grunt, but they have largely checked out and are simply waiting for our chat to come to a close. Continue reading
