Hopping into Spring!

Spring is a great time of year. The cold weather of winter makes its departure, leaving in its wake an abundance of new life and color. Lawns that had turned brown in dormancy, come back to life. Trees start budding new leaves. Flowers begin to grow and bloom.

A squatterhouse ll this change and growth does have it’d downside though. Lawns will once again have to be mowed. Weeds will once again have to be pulled. Flowers will once again have to be watered. I am not a huge fan of all that outdoors work, but it’s worth it to have a home that doesn’t look like it’s inhabited by vagrants and squatters. Continue reading →

I like to create things.

Nothing gets my creative juices flowing more than the idea of making stuff. Take a bit of this. Take a bit of that. It doesn’t matter if it was meant for the purpose I have in mind for it or not. If it could do the job I have in mind, I am going to give it a discerning bit of eyeballing.

As I discussed in a past post, I am a big fan of function over form. I tend to not just look at things for what they are…but what they could be. The spirit of a tinkerer dwells within me, and material improvisation is just part of who I am. This is an attribute that I am finding to be very useful in our brewing endeavor. Continue reading →

Tiny bits o’ foam…

This morning, while driving to my 9 to 5, I saw something that got my wheels turning a bit.

I was heading through St. Louis, west on 70 near the airport, when I happened to notice a large sheet of Styrofoam tumbling along the median. The wind, along with the whooshing air of the cars passing by, was catching this large sheet tossing it up into the air and sending it tumbling end over end. Continue reading →
