What’s up? How’s it goin’? Got any plans for the weekend? We should hang out. Candle lit dinner?  Maybe a movie? Sexy time by the fireplace?

Well we can’t because we’re busy this weekend.

Sorry I lead you on.

That’s right, the Regular Guys are back at it again. We’ve got our Hot Blonde  Jalapeño Blonde Ale that needs to go into the keg for carbonation and our Extra Pale Ale needs to go into secondary and dry hopped. I’m sure we’ll take a little peek at the Smokey Grove Apple Smoked Porter which is fermenting at the moment.

Also, three new recipes coming up, we’re going to be brewing some really exciting beer! Stay tuned for that.

Busy weekend for us. Maybe we can hang out another time…we’ll call you…I promise.

Until next time…

If you brew it, they will come

It was a chilly Friday night. Dark, damp and dreary (pause for effect). Three Regular Guys set out to do what no other man has ever done before. They would brew…beer!

Ok so brewing beer isn’t revolutionary, but what we brewed just might be. WARNING : You are about to view beer porn. If you are in a room with a closed door and value said door, you may want to open that door because this picture has the potential to blow doors down.

That’s right babies, we brewed our Smokey Grove Apple Smoked Porter. Need another picture?

There you go. Yeah, that’s real live smoke in the background for amazing visual effect. You probably have questions and we would answer those questions in a conversation that would go like this:

You: “If you just brewed this beer on Friday how is it already fermented, carbonated and ready to drink?”

Regular Guys: “Oh sweet innocent you, we’re magic, don’t ask questions.”

Then you drink it and rejoice.

This obviously isn’t our first batch of Smokey Grove, but we did do a few things differently. We used a different type of apple this time and put some in the boil and will use some in secondary.

Gorgeous. Next.

Beautiful. Transfering for fermentation. Dark as the night we brewed it.

So there you have it. We hit all of our numbers and efficiency was at 83%. Another successful brew!

Until next time…

Mad Science Time!

200px-Tinkerer_WorkingI like to create things.

Nothing gets my creative juices flowing more than the idea of making stuff. Take a bit of this. Take a bit of that. It doesn’t matter if it was meant for the purpose I have in mind for it or not. If it could do the job I have in mind, I am going to give it a discerning bit of eyeballing.

As I discussed in a past post, I am a big fan of function over form. I tend to not just look at things for what they are…but what they could be. The spirit of a tinkerer dwells within me, and material improvisation is just part of who I am. This is an attribute that I am finding to be very useful in our brewing endeavor. Continue reading

Punch it in the face!

We’ve all had a bad day before, maybe even a couple in row, but have you ever had an entire week that you wanted to slam into a brick wall and punch it in the face? I’m having one of those this week. It’s a “if it can go wrong, it will go wrong, horribly, horribly wrong” kind of weeks.

There is some light at the end of this tunnel though. Friday night we are brewing our soon to be world famous Smokey Grove Apple Smoked Porter, and guess who will be in attendance? Me! I’m extra excited because I missed last week’s brew session.

So expect new photos and an update next week. Get excited folks, it’s going to be awesome!
