Another weekend has come and gone too fast. At least we got a little work done on Friday. We have a homebrew competition coming up in October and we are taking five gallons of our Hot Blonde Jalapeño Blonde Ale and five gallons of our Smokey Grove Apple Smoked Porter. It’s a pretty neat concept, it’s more of an informal competition, but there will be about 200 tasters. That’s a lot of exposure!

Anyway back to Friday. Secondary on our Smokey Grove was complete so it was time to keg. Once the kegging was finished, we snuck a taste of the leftovers. I have to say, this was by far our best batch. The smokiness and the apple sweetness were perfectly balanced. Our last batch was a little heavy on the smoke, but this one was damn near perfect. Kudos to Seth for not only creating an amazing recipe, but also for achieving the proper smoke flavor to balance the whole thing out.

I don’t have many pictures to share this week, but here they are!

Secondary fermentation is complete and we’re ready to keg!

Brian is doing…something?

Seth is the beer whisperer. They’re having a conversation right now.

Smokey Grove Apple Smoked Porter into the keg. Carbonate and let it sit until the competition. It’s going to be tough to not sneak a few pints!

Well, that’s it! Another brew in the books! I hope you all have a great week. Big brew weekend coming up with StolzeStyle Brewing, our super top secret brew is on deck!

Until next time…

Friday night the Regular Guys got together to brew our Hot Blonde Jalapeño Blonde Ale. This one was a special brew, because the entire five gallons is being entered into a friendly competition. That’s right, we won’t get to enjoy the fruits of our labor this time around. The enjoyment we’ll get is seeing 200 tasters try our beer in one afternoon! Pretty cool right?!? We think so. Ready for some pictures? Let’s do this!

The jalapeños are looking all sexy like!

One of the hop varieties we used came from our friend Bobby at Music City Brew Supply. Thanks Bobby!

It’s hard to beat the smell of a big ol bag of freshly crushed grains.

Dough in!

The first runnings.

Just about to boil!

Holy hot break Batman!

This also happened during our session,  Alpha Brewing Company, you complete me!

The jalapeños taking a dip in the wort jacuzzi. They look so relaxed!

The boil is complete and the chilled wort is filling the fermentation bucket.

So there you have it, another successful brew. Our efficiency was at 84% and we hit all of our numbers.  Another plus, we finished in record time! All in all, it was a great night!

Until next time…

Update time, with pictures!

It seems just as we say hello to the weekend, we sadly have to say goodbye. The Regular Guys had a pretty productive Friday night. We got together and bottled our Hot Blonde Jalapeño Blonde Ale and kegged our EPA. Then we had a well deserved night out for research and development of course!

Let’s start with the Hot Blonde. Lately we’ve been tinkering with our recipes, taking everyone’s comments and suggestions to heart and combining them with our own ideas and meeting somewhere in the middle. We then make minor adjustments to our recipes and see how it turns out. The Hot Blonde may have been a little too spicy and we’ve been trying to figure out exactly at what point all that spiciness comes in. Well, we figured it out and an incredibly delicious beer was born!

How about some pictures? Ok!

image

We know this isn’t a “proper” glass for a blonde ale, but we aren’t picky. This is hand model extraordinaire Brian showing off the color and clarity of our brew. She’s a pretty beer!

image

This is also Brian enjoying the Hot Blonde. You can tell he approves by his eyebrow.

image

Let the bottling commence!

image

Seth is a pro. He’s the only one we trust to fill our bottles. I’ve tried, and was really bad at it.

Up next is the unnamed EPA. We’ve brewed this beer three times now and we’re hoping this version will be the recipe we can stick with.

Let’s picture shall we? We shall!

image

Secondary is complete and by the aroma, the dry hop went splendidly!

image

Brewmaster Seth is overseeing the transfer of the EPA to keg number one.

image

Brian is keeping a close eye on the filters.

image

Here’s a closer look at the filters. There’s some ridiculously good looking beer in there!

image

And finally, the filtered EPA is being transferred into keg number two. It is now being carbonated and we’ll get to test it out on Friday!

I hope you all have a fantastic week or at least a tolerable one!

Until next time…

Friday night we got together and kegged our Hot Blonde Jalapeño Blonde Ale for carbonation.

image

(In case you forgot what this pretty lady looks like)

When we opened the fermenter, what a delight for the senses it was! It was a beautiful hay colored brew. The smell of the jalapeños really came through and the flavor was incredible despite not being carbonated. I can only assume that if your beer is enjoyable before carbonation, it’s going to set the world on fire when it is!

We may have some exciting news about the Hot Blonde that I’ll fill you in on after it happens. Easy biggin’ you’ll find out on Friday.

We also transferred our yet to be named Extra Pale Ale to secondary and dry hopped for that extra boost of hops aroma and flavor. This beer has only been fermenting for two weeks and I wanted to sample it already! Wonderful aroma, citrusy and floral. I’m excited for this beer!

We didn’t do much to our Smokey Grove Apple Smoked Porter because it’s only been fermenting for a week, just watched her bubble away and make alcohol.

We also made a schedule for our next three beers we’re going to brew. A couple of redemption beers and something brand new! Stay tuned because it’s going to get exciting!

Brewing went well!

As all two of our followers know, we brewed Friday night and things went well! Don’t get me wrong, we had a few hiccups, but HEY! It had been a while, we were a little rusty! In the end all of our ingredients combined and made BEER! Sweet glorious beer! Ten gallons of sweet glorious beer!

We are always looking for new suggestions and recipes to try out, so if any of our fellow brewers out there have a favorite recipe, drop us a line. If anything, we could always brew our family renowned jalepeno blonde again!

Until next time…
